Our Laboratory

The ERIKA Educational Project is developed and maintained at the RETIS Lab of the Scuola Superiore di Studi Universitari e Perfezionamento S. Anna.

Operating Systems

The ReTiS Lab has developed other projects in the field of Real-Time Computing. These projects ranges from some Open Source Real-Time Kernels for the Intel processor family to an object oriented real-time scheduling simulator.

The names of these projects at the following:

Other universities using the ERIKA Educational Project

  • Satish Kumar, and Mitchell L. Neilsen - Kansas State University, USA - A really nice work on the implementation of Monitors for ERIKA (old ST10 version)
  • It seems that Jos Bos from the Hanze Hogeschool in Groningen, Netherlands has used ERIKA for half a semester in a computer science course. We got the info from one of his students; we tried to contact him, but we had no response to our mail :-(

ERIKA Enterprise

  • The latest improved version of the code is maintained under the name ERIKA Enterprise

Useful Lego Links

Read the fair play message from LEGO for more details.)
  • The main Lego Mindstorms web site
  • The BrickOS home page. BrickOS is another firmware replacement for the Lego Mindstorms RCX. BrickOS is distributed under the terms of the MPL License, and it is a really good and promising project, with a big community that supports it. The BrickOS home page also contains a set of useful links. Please note that ERIKA do not use any parts of the BrickOS source code due to incompatibility between the GPL and MPL license. In this sense, ERIKA and BrickOS are completely independent projects.
  • LUGNET /robotics/rcx - some useful message boards about Lego and the RCX...
  • Asterix, another kernel working with Lego Mindstorms, probably derived from an older version of BrickOS.

The MADESS II Project

E.R.I.K.A. Educational was initially supported by an Italian research project called MADESS II.

Embedded Systems

In the last years there has been a strong commitment for a standardization of the interfaces that the Kernels for the automotive industry should provide.

The result of this work is the OSEK-VDX standard.

Here are also a few interesting links on embedded systems:

Programming Resources

The E.R.I.K.A. Documentation has been written using LyX and Dia.

The Gimp was used to create the E.R.I.K.A. Logo.

...and finally, a flower photo gallery!

(the flower in the E.R.I.K.A.'s logo is the Rhododendron simsii of the Ericaceae family)
